Strolling & Tasting ... in Carpineto Romano Staff Writer - February 27, 2004
Sunday, March 14, 2004 between 10:30AM and 8:30PM Carpineto Romano hosts a fascinating eno-gastronomic event featuring guided walks in downtown historic Carpineto Romano, Italy, the birthplace of Pope Leone 13th in 1810.
The event, sponsored by the Frosinone chapter of the Slow Food organization and the association "Le Vigne del Lazio", is supported by the restaurants La Sbirra (The Police Woman), La Stradanova (The New Road), Il Tartufo (The Truffle), Il Faggio (The Beech Tree) and I Quattro Fratelli (The Four Brothers). Each participating restaurant offers a different fixed price menu featuring zesty local recipes, elaborated from the traditional peasant cuisine based on local specialties such as wild mushrooms, truffles, game, olives and lamb.
Le Vigne del Lazio, a regional organization dedicated to promoting quality wines from the Lazio region, is present with a tasting booth offering about 30 different wine labels served by professional sommeliers in precious crystal glasses that will be given to the participants as a memento of the event.
In addition, the boroughs of the Ente Palio della Carriera, a historic annual celebration, offer typical snacks.
The cost for the fixed price menu is €22,00 per person (€20,00 for Slow Food members in good standing). The cost for wine tasting is €10,00 (€8,00 Slow Food members in good standing) and the price includes the big Spiegelau glass with its container.
