The hilly area between Bologna and Modena, enclosed between the valleys of the Panaro and Samoggia rivers, offers beautiful landscapes and historic destinations to the visitors, in addition to a great variety of unique typical products, seasonal and flavorful, which help unfamiliar visitors to better understand the culture and history of this land.
The Wine and Flavor Road "Cities, Castles, Cherry Trees" was the very first enogastronomic itinerary in Emilia Romagna and it was created to promote the typical aspects of this part of the region starting from the choice of the name itself.
The Cities are Bologna and Modena. They are the urban gates to the area comprised along the Road and at the same time are points of reference to the visitor not familiar with the area.
The many Castles that dot the towns and hills overlooking the fertile valleys are the legacy of ancient, intense cultural and historic events.
Finally, the Cherry Trees, to which Vignola dedicates an annual festival, are characteristic of these valleys and the Ciliegia Tipica di Vignola (Typical Vignola Cherry) add value to the portfolio of typical local products.
The Strada dei Vini e Sapori "Città Castelli Ciliegi" leads the visitor toward the discovery of the most authentic traditional flavor of the area. The Road enters an evocative itinerary that alternates leveled valleys with green hills. Along it one may taste and buy delicacies that satisfy every kind of taste. Along this route one finds products that are the expression of a culture that still bases its gastronomy upon ancient recipes passed down from the elders as well as on the practice of preparing food based on the season.
