Next June, Abruzzo will host the National Convention of the 'Città del Vino' ('Cities of Wine') association. The event, which will last some days and will take place in several 'Cities of Wine' in the province of Chieti, will be an exceptional showcase for the whole region, as mayors and administrators of the 540 participating Italian municipalities will take part in the convention.
The Regional Coordination of Abruzzo's 'Cities of Wine', led by the deputy mayor of Orsogna, Fabrizio Montepara, accepted the National Council's invitation to organize the event, based on a proposal by regional director Nicola Mincone.
Chieti was chosen for its high wine-producing vocation and because 18 of the 28 'Cities of Wine' members in Abruzzo are from that area. In addition to estates, historical sites and other tourist attractions in the province of Chieti.
"We will ask for the support of the Abruzzo Region Administration, as well as for the support of the Municipality of Chieti, and the active participation of local businesses in such an important event," said Montepara.
"The last National Convention, held in Marsala, Sicily in November 2004, was characterized by a very high participation by local administrators from all over Italy. Both the fact that the event takes place in summer and Abruzzo's convenient centralized location, will be appealing factors. The selection of the Abruzzo region to host the convention is considered an excellent choice by the regional municipalities that put their trust in this association. We believe that the choice is the fair reward for all the work that has been done," continued Montepara.
"The event will take place in and around Chieti, but will showcase the Abruzzo wine-producing community in its entirety. We will do our best to organize the event so that the participants will appreciate it to the fullest."
