August is gone, and the 2010 grape harvest has started in various growing regions around the world for the production of sparkling wines and some whites.
In Italy the expectation is for a good quality vintage, with an excellent crop expected in the northern regions of Piedmont and Trentino Alto Adige. In late August, the Osservatorio del Vino (Wine Observatory) of the growers' association, Confagricoltura, said that in addition to quality, the 2010 vintage is expected to increase 2.5% across the board (4.3% in the Center-North of the country, and 0.3% in the Center South,) for a projected total of 46.5 million hectoliters (1,228.4 million gallons) of wine.
On a different subject, I have launched a NEWS column on Journals and Journeys, where I plan to publish in depth presentations of food items. I dedicated the first installment to beans, a common, versatile ingredient which I appreciate a lot and tend to use extensively. Check out the interesting beans marinated with extra virgin olive oil and herbs, spices, or seeds: they are soooo good, I love them.
Enjoy the reading and drink well, but in moderation.
