Thanks to the contribution of the Veneto Region and the Treviso Chamber of Commerce, as well as the support of the Consortium for the Promotion of Tourism Marca Treviso, this year the event will encompass the whole area legally known as the Primo Distretto Spumantistico d'Italia, or Number One Spumante Wine District in Italy.
The beautiful Medieval Castello di S. Salvatore (Castle of St. Savior), where the Counts Collalto still live, will open its gates to host 70 producers of Prosecco DOC wine. As always, the focus of the event will be the sparkling wine symbol Conegliano Valdobbiadene. In fact, it is that time of the year when the local wineries introduce their latest production to the public. In addition to offering the opportunity to taste as many as 250 Prosecco DOC labels, the theme of the 2005 annual presents many surprises to the general public, journalists, professionals and gastronomy buffs alike that arrive from every part of Italy and abroad.
The 2005 event in fact, is dedicated to pairing the bubbles of the Prosecco di Valdobbiadene with traditional finger food from Hong Kong (Dim Sum), Denmark (Smørrebrød) and Catalonia (New Tapas), thanks to a project promoted in collaboration with Chef Kumalè – AKA Vittorio Castellani, 'nomadic' gastronomy journalist and great world cuisine expert.
The traditional cicchetti popular in Venice and Treviso are the typical 'small foods' Italian style that pair perfectly with the Prosecco DOC wine, while in other parts of Italy and the world, it has often been tthought of as the aperitif or hors d'oeuvre wine.
Who could have imagined that finger food and appetizers would have become so popular across the world as food concept? The tradition of food to be eaten with one's hands in fact, is common to different cultures worldwide.
Following such a theme, Vino in Villa (Wine at the Villa) will take visitors to the culinary discovery of Hong Kong, Denmark and Catalonia, showing that the Prosecco DOC wine pairs perfectly with exotic cuisines from the Mediterranean shores, to Northern Europe and all the way to the Far East.
Enogastronomy, however, will not be the exclusive theme of the event. Visitors will be introduced to local traditions, culture and tourist attractions of these pre-Alpine corner of Italy.
Vino in Villa will offer the opportunity to analyze and understand the commercial perspective of the Prosecco DOC di Conegliano Valdobbiadene sparkling wine. This will be the subject of the convention held Saturday, May 21st at 10:30 AM.
In addition, the event introduces Sagardi, one of the best known Spanish finger food chains who, for the occasion, will set up an authentic Catalan restaurant. Finally, a selection of typical local cicchetti, that is the traditional Venetian finger food, will be available as well.
