Eight Annual Enologica and Sixth Typical Product Salon 2005
Staff Writer - September 21, 2005

The double Faenza trade show, scheduled from November 19, to 21, 2005 by now represents an open window to the best wine and food products from the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. In addition, following last year's success, the 'Master del Sangiovese' ('Sangiovese Master') contest will take place during the three-day fair.

This year's annual Enologica, the trade show dedicated to the local wine production, introduces numerous new initiatives as is the case with the 'Salone del Prodotto Tipico' ('Typical Product Salon'), the food products trade show that, for the last four years, has been held within the Enologica event. The salon is an important showcase for specialty foods produced in the Emilia Romagna region, from the Adriatic shores of Rimini to the Piacenza hills, obviously passing through the hills and plains of Ravenna and Imola, the big towns that are the true heart of this geographic area.

To better manage the trade show's transitional process, Faenza Fiere, the institution that oversees the Faenza Centro Fieristico provinciale (provincial Trade Show Center), in the province of Ravenna, partnered with the Enoteca Servizi s.r.l. (Wine Bar Service L.L.C.), the organization created as an expansion of the official Enoteca Regionale dell'Emilia Romagna (Emilia Romagna Regional Wine Bar).

During the three-day show the regional wine and food producers present their goods in a promotional environment setting, favoring the discovery and appreciation of the region's typical enogastronomy products by creating contacts between producers and restauranteurs, wine bar managers, distributors and final consumers who, year after year, participate in larger numbers, becoming more and more critical.

The typical products to be offered will hold many surprises for lovers of tasty, genuine flavors. From the high quality white and red wines, which includes established noble nectars such as Sangiovese and Albana, as well as interesting up-and-coming wines made with local native vines, to the extra virgin olive oil, to the traditional balsamic vinegar from Modena, to specialty salami such as the famed culatello, the pit cheese, the super fresh 'squaquerone' cheese , the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, the locally produced seasoned salt, honey and preserved fruits and vegetables.

In addition to the exhibition booths, the event offers guided wine and food tasting, theme dinners, flavor labs, educational meetings and, on Monday the 21th, a round table/convention about the effect of eating trends and habits on typical wine and food consumption, organized in collaboration with Slow Food and AIS (Associazione Italiana Sommelier, or Italian Sommeliers Association).

The 2005 annual confirms the important pairing between Enologica and the 'Master del Sangiovese'. In fact, after last year's positive experience, the trade show will host once more the prestigious contest limited to sommeliers and organized by the Ente Tutela Vini di Romagna (Institution for the Protection of Romagna Wines) and the Romagna chapter of the AIS, in collaboration with the Enoteca Regionale dell'Emilia Romagna. The competition includes two categories: 'professional sommeliers' and 'non-professional tasters' qualified by the AIS.
