Fifth Annual Verona Vinorum Staff Writer - May 17, 2005
A new Verona Vinorum for a new year.
The appointment with the great wine from Verona, that in a short time has become one of the must-attends for wine lovers in Northern Italy, is approaching once again. It will take place on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the historic Palazzo della Gran Guardia, located in Piazza Bra, facing the world famous Arena, a perfect stage for grand operas that will be performed during the same period.
The fifth annual introduces a variety of changes and new activities, starting with the wine competition held Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30, 2005, when the best wines produced in the province of Verona that will be honored at the next Verona Vinorum, have been selected.
A serious and qualified evaluation of the wines that entered the competition is essential, thus four independent judging panels, separated by professional categories, were created. The four commissions were composed of wine technicians, journalists, representatives of wine organizations and consortiums, and, to make it even more interesting, the producers themselves.
The jurors blind-tasted the over 90 wines presented by the major Veronese producers and the top three white and red wines selected are as follows.
| White Wine |
- Recioto di Soave DOCG 2003, Azienda Vicentini Agostino
- Recioto di Soave DOCG 2002, Azienda Cambrago
- Soave Superiore DOCG 2003 Tirso, Azienda Marcato

These wines will be the centerpiece of the 2005 Annual Verona Vinorum.

About 50 Veronese estates are being admitted and, in addition to the usual well known major wine producers, include some local up-and-coming emerging wineries. In addition, 10 local producers of typical products and artisans will participate in the event as well. The two-day event will feature good wine, elegance and finesse, the characteristics that have characterized the Verona Vinorum since its first annual event.
After Vinitaly, Verona Vinorum is the major event organized by VeronaFiere and is dedicated exclusively to Veronese wines. In 2005 the organizers want to confirm the great results achieved in the previous years and, possibly, host more that the over 4,000 visitors that participated in the 2004 annual. The goal is making this event a unique example of entertainment and celebration, during which participants can taste the best Veronese wines paired with samples of local delicacies.
The gates of the Gran Guardia Palace open on Friday, June 24 at 6 PM and will stay open until late at night. The same will happen the next day, with the official ending late Saturday night, June 25, 2005.
