SOL: New Hall for Meeting the Market
Staff Writer - January 3, 2005

New logistics organization for the 11th annual International Exhibition of Virgin and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, scheduled alongside the 39th Vinitaly 7-11 April 2005.

The new arrangements are designed to ensure better visibility for SOL that is thus transferred to the brand-new Hall 10: 8 thousand square meters (about 86.111 square feet) with every comfort and facility. This is modern, air conditioned exhibition facility and will ensure better contacts between the 400 exhibitors and professional visitors from all over the world. About 33,000 operators are expected, of whom more than 4,000 international, from about 60 countries. In 2004, the attendance from Belgium, Germany, Holland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, China, India, Singapore, United States, Canada, Argentina and Brazil was particularly significant. It was an international audience largely made up of importers, agents, restaurant owners, wine bars/shops and/or small-medium businesses managers, purchasers for commercial chains and/or purchasing groups.

Such results are based on consolidated "design" and organizational skills. In fact, last year VeronaFiere was granted Observatory status by the IOC (International Olive Oil Council). Thus VeronaFiere plays an even more important role that will ensure further quality growth of the exhibition.

Thanks to agreements with IOC, European and Italian Institutions, and Italian Producers Associations, conventions and meetings focusing on major current topics affecting the sector.

Scheduled initiatives include guided tastings of extra virgin olive oils from various Italian regions as well as other producing countries, offering operators the possibility of learning more about the properties and characteristics of the products as well as the best culinary matches. In addition, short-stage tastings will contribute to further spread and promote extra virgin olive oil culture and knowledge among consumers.

Especially important for producing companies is the third "SOL d’Oro" International Olive Oil Competition, that has become the landmark event in the sector by now, with the goal of promoting worldwide the best olive oils and typical extra virgin olive oil production, highlighting in particular the geographical origin of the product. More than 300 Italian and international samples are expected to compete and will be judged between March 21st and 25th, 2005 by an International Tasting Commission which includes technicians, tasters and experts.
