Fourth Dolcissima Pietra Returns in September

On September 20, and 21, 2008, Pietra Ligure will host the fourth Dolcissima Pietra (literally 'Super Sweet Stone', with a wink to the the host town name, 'Pietra', which is Italian for 'stone'), the annual event dedicated exclusively to sweet food and desserts.
As for the previous years, the event will take place in the centro storico (historic downtown) of Pietra Ligure, in the province of Savona, which for the two days of the show will be literally overtaken by sweet tooth creations from all over Italy as well as abroad.

Each year the event has a specific theme, which in 2008 is "The Seven Capital Sins", and the theme color will be ruby red. The exhibitors are artisans who produce sweet food, pastry chefs, dessert producing factories, commercial farms, associations of restauranteurs and other trade professionals, which will offer to taste and for sale their products in the town'sSan Nicolò, Rosselli, Martiri della Libertà, La Pietra and Castellino piazzas.

The Products
In addition to the unfailing typycal pastries and products from Liguria, such as the baci (kisses) from Pietra Ligure, pandolce alla genovese (sweet bread Genoa-style), amaretti cookies from Sassello, chifferi (type of pasta) , and pan del pescatore (fisherman bread) among others, visitors will find regional specialties from other parst of Italy, such as pabassini and pan di sapa (traditional Sardinian sweets), almond paste with brittle, nougat cake from Cremona, the basin ‘d vila from Piedmont, artisanal chocolat creations, chocolate from Modica, Sicilian cannoli, Sachertorte, krumiri cookies, honey, zabaione, praline and confetti candies from Sulmona, natural aromas, and much more. All this sweet food will be paired with artisan's hazelnut and marron glacé liquers, cherry grappa (typical Italian spirit), and dessert wines such as Recioto, Brachetto, Malvasia Piacentina and Moscato d'Asti.

Gara di Arte Dolciaria (Sweet Art Competition)
in this event within the event pastry chefs and confectioner will face off preparing creations wich wil be exhibited, as well as tasted and judge by a panel of experts moderated by well known Italian gourmand journalist, Virgilio Pronzati. The Gara di Arte Dolciaria is organized in collaboration with Confartigianato, CNA, Associazione Panificatori Pasticceri e Affini (Association of Bakers, Pastry Chefs and Cognates) from the province of Savona, and the Savona chapter of the Federazione Italiana Cuochi (Italian Chef's Federation).
The c ompetition includes two sections: the Art Contest and the Premio Sezione Torte (Cake Award), dedicated to Chef, Marzio Strobino.

Meeting della Dolcezza (Sweetness Meeting)
In addition to the exhibition and chef's contest, conferences, seminars, tasting labs dedicated to pairing sweet food with meditation wines, will be organizaed for the occasion. Among the products qhich will be tasted in this section there is chocolat, honei, dessert wines, typical cookies, gelato and, for the first time ever in 2008, one lab dedictaed to the torta di zucca (pumpkin cake), a typical Ligure dessert from the Savona-Pietra Ligure area.
