International Wines Win Big This Year
Although top honors were given to American wineries, "International wines made a strong showing this year," continued Pierce, and added that three of the seven Sweepstakes competitors, all Best of Class, that were judged in the 'Women Winemakers' Sweepstakes' were international wines. Over 10%, or four wines out of the 38 Best of Class wines judged in the 'Open Sweepstakes' were international non US wines as well.
"Although, statistically speaking, international wines won more medals relative to the number of entries, the winning wines – US or International – span the full spectrum of varieties, tastes, and styles." Pierce noted.
