The Villa at Terre di Nano |
The villa, which currently doubles as an agriturismo, is located at the top of a hill at 500 meters (about 1,640 feet) of elevation, offering a panoramic view of the little medieval jewels that are the towns of Montepulciano, Pienza, and the village of Monticchiello. The view is breath-taking, expanding from the Val di Chiana (Chiana Valley) to Mount Amiata and Val d'Orcia (Orcia Valley), where guests can visit the historic centers of San Quirico, Rocca, Castiglione, Bagno Vignoni, Montalcino, Montefollonico and Buonconvento.
Cultivated in the heart of a noble wine zone, the Terre di Nano vineyards neighbor with those used to make the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and are just 20 minutes away from the vineyards of Sangiovese Grosso which produce the famed Brunello di Montalcino wine.
The 10 hectares (about 24.7 acres) of the estate vineyard produce three wines: Barlettaia, a Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, Quercialsole, an Orcia Rosso DOC whose base grape in Sangiovese, and the SuperTuscan, Maclura Toscana IGT, made with 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. The grapes are pressed in the estate own winery with cutting edge equipment, before being moved to the evocative ageing area with its wooden barrels.
The olive grove is about 4 hectares (around 10 acres wide) surrounding the villa. In November, when it's time to pick the ripe olives, some of the Terre di Nano guests visit the agriturismo expressly to help the owners harvest the olives and assist in the first extra virgin olive oil production of the season. The fruits are cold-pressed at the Montepulciano frantoio (oil mill).

The well known Tuscan cities of Siena and Arezzo, as well as Umbria's Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto, are just an hour away by car from the property. The airports of Rome and Pisa, or Florence downtown, are an hour and a half away. The historic centers of Monticchiello, Pienza and Montepulciano are less than 10 kilometers (around 6 miles) from the estate.
