Zucchero Goes to Wine
Staff Writer - January 30, 2007

Zucchero (AKA Sugar Fornaciari, real name Adelmo Fornaciari) is the Emilian singer-songwriter who has made a name for himself abroad for his personal style. In 2005 Zucchero highlighted the international aspect of his music with the CD "Zucchero & Co.", sung in Italian, English and Spanish, in duets with Sheryl Crow, Paul Young, Macy Gray, Miles Davis B.B. King, Manà, Sting and Eric Clapton, among others.

It seems that recently the Italian blues man has purchased a country home with surrounding vineyards in the Monferrato area of Piedmont, joining a number of singers and musicians getting personally involved to varying degrees in producing wine.

The list includes Italian singers, from Al Bano (former husband of Romina Power, artist herself and daughter of Hollywood icon, Tyrone Power) to Lucio Dalla as well as international musicians such as Sting, Madonna, Bob Dylan, Jim Kerr of group Simple Mind and Mick Hucknall, singer of the 80's British group Simply Red. Also represented is the international film community, including Europeans Gerard Depardieu and Michelle Mercier, and Hollywood movie director Francis F. Coppola. Zucchero 'Sugar" Fornaciari, who after all, has roots in the lower Emilian plain of the area known as the Padania, apparently couldn't resist the call of the land.

According to non-confirmed rumors the Emilian rock star bought a refurbished country home in Piedmont, between Alessandria and Casale Monferrato. The property is said to include various acres of vineyards and fruit orchards.

"Bacco perbacco" (Bacchus, darn it!) one would want to say quoting the title of a recent Zucchero song. This time it seems that Mr. Sugar Fornaciari truly went into the vineyard.
