Data released on Italian wine exports in 2003

Last week, the Unione Italiana Vini (UIV, or Italian Wine Union) released the official data on Italian wine exports to the US for 2003. The figures are comforting as Italian export reached €822 million, according to the report. The Italian association of wine producers disclosed also that by December 2003, Italian wine accounted for 32 percent of the US wine market, a figure already increased to 33.3 percent in the first quarter of 2004.

Italian wines ranked above France both in terms of wine import value and market share in the US, while Australian wines registered 22 percent market share in the same period.
