"We're honored to add Barone Ricasoli to the Paterno portfolio. The Ricasoli family's rich history and contributions to the Italian wine industry are extraordinary. Under the leadership of Francesco Ricasoli they have made significant improvements in the vineyards and winery facilities. The effect of these investments is clearly understood and appreciated in the wines," said Terlato. "The addition of this renowned Chianti estate enhances and diversifies our portfolio of exceptional brands from around the world."

The House of Ricasoli is regarded as the world's oldest winery, having produced wines since 1141. The Ricasoli family is also credited for developing the Sangiovese-based blend that became the basis for Chianti Classico. In 1993, Francesco Ricasoli, the 32nd Baron, regained family control of the winery after more than two decades of corporate ownership. He immediately set about improving quality at the family's historic estate, Castello di Brolio. Over the last decade the Ricasoli family has invested heavily in replanting most of its 570 acre Brolio vineyard, reducing crop yields and upgrading the company's winemaking techniques and equipment. Today, Barone Ricasoli owns the largest single estate in the Chianti Classico region.

"The Terlato family shares my family's passion and dedication," explained Francesco Ricasoli. "Paterno's strong relationships with distributors and its emphasis on placing wines in fine restaurants makes it the ideal partner for our family."
