According to the recently published 2002 edition of The Global Drinks Market: Impact Databank Review and Forecast, Australian wine export numbers were higher than ever in 2002, surging 24% during the past year and swelling 50% in the past three years, up to a record Aus. $2,000,000 ($1,307,600 US - €1,162,105)

Australia is now the world's fourth largest exporter behind Italy, France, and Spain and before Chile that is now in fifth place. Wine drinkers outside the country now consume 417,300,000 liters of Australian wine a year, and red wines are clearly the favorite of the bunch.

In the United States, Australia surpassed France for the first time ever and is now attested to as the second largest provider of imported table wine, behind Italy.

Wine export today is among Australia's biggest generator of foreign currency.
