The Family
The farm was founded over half a century ago by Grandpa Gregorio. He was nicknamed "Gorio", and his namesake survives on the label of the current top wine produced in the new winery, the Extra-Dry Prosecco Spumante DOC.
Maurizio Favrel, current owner and enologist, graduated from the "G.B. Cerletti" Enology School of Conegliano Veneto, the oldest and best renowned school of its kind worldwide. After two years of internship with the major winery of Valdobbiadene, in 2004 Maurizio took over the winemaking direction of the family estate, thus guaranteeing the total production control, from the cultivation of the grapes to bottling the final product.
The Vineyards
The production zone expands along a small strip of land next to the Castello di San Salvatore (St. Savior Castle), in the small town of Susegana, in Treviso province.
The Prosecco vine is rustic and vigorous, with hazel-brown colored branches and long, sparse-berried bunches whose golden yellow color shows through from the luscious green of the leaves when they ripen. The vineyards are attended almost entirely by hand with the help of simple tools. The cultivation system used is the Silvoz, which is typical of this area and allows for a good balance between leaf growth and grape production.
From Vinitaly to Vino in Villa, from the National Show of Spumante Wines to the Prosecco Grand Prize, from the Italian Flavor Forum to the L. A. County Fair, Malibrán wines can be found and tasted in all the major Italian and international wine trade shows and competitions.
"Gorio" Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOC
Spumante Extra Dry
This wine takes its name from grandpa Gregorio, the founder of the Azienda Agricola Malibrán, and it's currently the top wine produced in the new winery.
Made with 100% Prosecco grapes harvested by hand and collected into small containers, so as not to damage the berries and to allow for the gentle pressing of whole grapes. The alcohol content of this excellent sparkling wine is 11.5% by volume, is golden yellow in color and has a fine, abundant and persistent perlage.
This Prosecco has flowery notes of wisteria, acacia and roses that overlap fruity scents of apple and white peach. It is full, round and extremely harmonious to the palate, with a progressive, delicate and complete carbonic development.
After being decanted ten times, the wine is allowed rest in its natural yeast for two months in order to enhance the characteristic aroma.
This wine must be served in flute glass at 46.4° to 50° F. (8°-10° C). It is excellent as an aperitif or with light hors d'oeuvres and pairs well with legume soups, shellfish recipes, pasta with delicate meat sauces, fresh cheese and white meat, especially poultry.
"Ponte Ros", Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOC Frizzante
As for the "Gorio" line, the Ponte Ros Frizzante (crisp, sparkling) is made with 100% Prosecco grapes harvested by hand, collected in small containers and crushed whole with gentle pressure.
The alcohol content is 11% by volume, the color is intense straw yellow and the foam persistent, fine and moderately abundant.
Serve in flute glass at 46.4° to 50° F. (8°-10° C). Good as aperitif or with hors d'oeuvres, it pairs well with simple pasta dishes as well. It is excellent also with pizza instead of the classic chilled beer.
Podere Toronta, Cabernet dei Colli Trevigiani IGT
Made with 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes harvested by hand and collected in small containers. The grapes then undergo gentle de-stemming and crushing, followed by long fermentation, before being left to rest in barrique for 10 months.
With 13% alcohol by volume, the wine has a pleasant, intense, brilliant ruby red color. The aroma opens with a good scent of freshly cut grass, pleasing and unintrusive, followed by notes of red fruits, plum and marasca (kind of bitter cherry), with hints of black pepper, incense, lightly toasted wood, and leather.
Is a wine with good structure and persistence, full-flavored, balanced and and harmonious. Serve at 60.8° to 64.4° F. (16°-18° C.), paired with aged salamis and cold cuts, savoury cheeses, grilled red meats and game.
